Pitzponim Tefillin
What Are Tefillin Pitzponim?
Tefillin Pitzponim are exceptionally small tefillin – typically between 20 and 24 mm – with miniature parshiyot written in an ultra-compact layout. These are high-end miniature tefillin, crafted with extreme halachic precision in every detail: from the writing itself to the batim and straps. Due to their tiny size, each pair demands the utmost accuracy and expert craftsmanship – making them a true work of halachic art.
The Unique Challenge:
The greatest challenge with Tefillin Pitzponim lies in the script. The parshiyot must be written on extremely narrow parchment. Only highly skilled sofrim with a steady hand and years of experience can produce such delicate, halachically valid writing.
Who Uses Miniature Tefillin?
Miniature tefillin are ideal for those who wear two sets daily – Rashi and Rabbeinu Tam – and want to save space and time. They’re also suitable for soldiers, travelers, or anyone who prefers a compact and easy-to-carry set of tefillin.
In addition, many Jewish communities have long-standing traditions of wearing small tefillin to better fulfill the mitzvah of placing them precisely “between your eyes.”
Uncompromising Halachic Standards
Despite their small size, there is zero compromise on halachic quality. Every pair of Pitzponim tefillin undergoes rigorous inspection – including computer checks, professional proofreading, and certification by leading halachic authorities. The batim are made from a single piece of hide, perfectly square, with a hand-drawn shin and no puncture stitching – meeting and exceeding halachic requirements.
On the Tefillin Aliya website, you’ll find a selection of Pitzponim – available in both Rashi and Rabbeinu Tam versions – all written and assembled under the strict supervision of the Aliya Badatz rabbinical team.
